Home Reading

Ah the dreaded home reading books.  Never fear.... its only Kindergarten.

I will be sending home some little books for you to read with your child.  It is not meant for them to be able to read them but instead an opportunity to show your child how simple reading can be.  Take a couple of minutes and read the book to them.  Take the time to show them:
  •  Where the title is.
  • How to track where we are in the book. Follow along at each word.
  • If they are interested show them the common words: (the, he it, etc)
  • Take the time to ask questions about the pictures (notice how they connect to what is read).
Read the book a couple of times.  If they are interested have them "read" the book.  It may not be the same as what you read but thats ok.  Very few Kindergarten Students actually learn how to read in Kindergarten.  Its all good.

On another note, report cards are coming out in a month.  I am starting to test the kids and will continue to test in the coming days.  Please make sure that you take the time to play some word games and make them aware that letters are every where (same with numbers).

And dads out there.  Boys need to see that dad thinks school is important.  Read with them, ask about their day at school.  Make a priority to play an educational game with them.  You are their heroes.  If their hero thinks school is important then they will too.
